Al Mulla launches fourth-generation Mitsubishi Pajero
The "King of Deserts" Reauthorize The World of 4x4
Based on a quarter century's expertise in building one of the world's favorite, most successful and most enduring 4x4s, Mitsubishi and Al Mulla Group are launching the 4th-generation as the ultimate SUV. It is a progressive evolution that combines authentic 4-wheel-drive go-anywhere ability with bold and muscular new styling.
Since the launch of the first generation, the Mitsubishi Pajero established itself as "King of Deserts" for its unprecedented capability, refined utility and distinctive style. It is the only sport-utility vehicle in the world with an unmatched 12 wins in Dakar, the most punishing rally in the world.
“Since its debut in 1982, the King found its way to 2.5 million customers in over 170 countries, with Kuwait as its main market in the Middle East,” said Imad Flayhan, Commercial Director of Al Mulla Group. “The King of Deserts will reauthorize the world of 4x4 and expands its superiority and core values of freedom, adventure and authenticity to new frontiers. This is a vehicle that inspires exceptional brand loyalty, and offers an exceptional ride, handling, benchmark safety, luxury-inspired interior appointments and functional, performance-oriented exterior enhancements.”
Despite a carry over of 26% of parts, the new Pajero is immediately distinguished by its bold elegant grille, short front overhang, upright windscreen, strong high flanks, flared wheelarches and rear-mounted spare wheel - all key Pajero style cues that underline its tough, authentic, off-road ability. The front visage takes the eyes of a wildcat (from which the Pajero name is derived) as its motif and is further distinguished by headlights with swept up undersides for better obstacle avoidance.
Enhancing its off-road capabilities and durability further, the new Pajero benefits from technologies and know-how fed back from the Dakar Rally. The result is a quieter, safer and more dynamic basis the uprated all around independent suspension.
As well as the option of three or five doors, Pajero buyers will have the choice of a four model line-up GL, GLX and GLS models as well as the new luxury Gold Emblem Package exclusively available as an option for the GCC market.
The Pajero's interior - from its A-pillar grab-handles to its lofty driving position – reflects its rugged authentic all-season ability. The all-new cabin architecture features a contemporary integrated centre console that houses a Multi-Information Center Display for the climate and audio controls. Particular attention has been paid to creating a robust feeling within the cabin, with an intuitive layout and easily understood graphics and instruments.
The new Pajero sports a new Rockford Acoustic Design Premium Sound System comprising a 860 Watt amplifier. The 5-door body offers a 9-inch LCD monitor with integral DVD, CD and video entertainment system housed in the roof of the rear compartment.
During development the new Pajero underwent a full range of testing programs subjecting it to the harshest conditions imaginable. Those included simulated compatibility testing at 2,500 m in the European Alps and minus 40-degree temperatures in Northern Europe, as well as actual off-road driving in African and Middle-east desert and Australian outback conditions.
The new Pajero unique monocoque body received further improvements in reliability, durability to offer both peerless off-road ability and responsive on-road driving dynamics. The vehicle retains an all-round 4-wheel independent suspension and Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) driveline introduced in the 3rd-generation model to give it unmatched go-anywhere capabilities over all surfaces.
As always, the Pajero comes packed with an array of safety including an upgraded Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) system, dual-stage SRS airbags for driver and front passenger, side and curtain airbags and other new passive safety measures earn the new Pajero the equivalent of a 6-star JNCAP rating and 4-stars EURO NCAP in in-house testing.
The new Pajero is powered by two engines that feature detail improvements to realize a happy marriage between high output and environmental performance. The 269 horsepower 3.8-liter V6 mated to INVECS-II 5-speed automatic transmission and the 188 horsepower 3.0-liter V6 mated to INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission.
“The new Pajero is now better than ever,” said Ammar Farha, Marketing Manager, Al Mulla Group. “The 4th-generation offers a combination of unmistakable design, best in class 4x4 capabilities, advanced rugged structure and purposeful technology, as well as plenty of room for people and gear. With the wide list of options available, it will impress customers that look for something different and dependable.”
“The Mitsubishi brand’s succession of innovative product introductions in the past few months continues to strengthen the brand’s standing as the second best seller in Kuwait,” added Farha. “With the launch of the new Pajero, the momentum is sure to continue.”
